So maybe you’ve been dreaming about becoming a DJ for some time. Maybe it’s a new interest? If you’re looking to build yourself a career as a DJ, imagine how it would feel to be getting paid, for a job you truly love?
The reality is… It’s totally possible!!
Every DJ starts from somewhere, and the journey of becoming a professional DJ can be made so much easier, simply by knowing where to begin.
What Do You Need To Get Started?
The truth is… to get started as a DJ, there’s a good chance you have what you need to get started.
If you have a laptop, or an iPad, you have all you need to get started. That way, you can see if DJing is something you want to invest your money in, to get the necessary equipment to start practising, and working towards playing in clubs and other venues.
What Software Should I Choose?
Once you’re more experienced, you’ll more likely be choosing between 3 pieces of DJ software. Rekordbox, Serato, or Traktor.
To get started, Serato offers a ‘lite’ version of their software, which you can have a play around with, and ultimately see if you think you’d like to pursue this as a career.
You can get a budget, entry level controller if you choose, to get started practising with. Some may argue that this is a waste of your money, but it could be worth getting an inexpensive DJ controller to practise with, as you will get a more realistic feeling of what it will be like to DJ. Clicking buttons on your keyboard, or using your mouse… It’s just not the same.
If you have an iPad however, you should definitely take a look at Traktor DJ, from Native Instruments, or DJAY, from Algoriddm. Both are pretty comprehensive when it comes to tablet DJ software, and you can DJ on your iPad, in a much more realistic way than on a laptop, unless you invest in a controller of course.
